Unlike industry incumbents that collect a percentage of every fare, Throo charges a flat $1 fee per trip, regardless of the distance or total cost. This model aims to lower prices for passengers while ensuring drivers retain the vast majority of their earnings. In Denver, the service is powered by the Drivers Cooperative Colorado (COOP), a union-style organization that allows its driver-members to govern the company and share in its profits. Because the platform does not siphon a percentage of the total fare, the cooperative can maintain its own pricing structure while utilizing Throo’s dispatch technology and rider demand.
Since its June 2026 launch, the app has gained significant traction, with over 55,000 drivers signing up in the New York market. The company is already planning further growth, confirming expansion into Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh for the fourth quarter of 2026. For existing users, the expansion enables seamless travel between the two cities, as the same login credentials and payment methods function across both the New York and Denver service areas.
