The expansion follows the successful deployment of Zum technology on the company's own 450 buses, which currently service 405 routes for the district. By extending this software to LAUSD’s internal fleet, the district gains a centralized view of its daily transportation network. The platform provides real-time data on routing, dispatch, and vehicle location, effectively closing the visibility gap between third-party and internal operations.

Abhishek Garg, co-founder and CTO of Zum, noted that the integration serves as a blueprint for modernizing large-scale student mobility. Beyond logistical coordination, the system offers drivers digital navigation and updated route tools. For families, the platform provides increased transparency regarding their children's daily commutes, an effort to replace traditional transportation anxiety with reliable, trackable service. Zum currently supports more than 6,500 schools across 19 states, reflecting a broader national trend toward digitizing school bus infrastructure.
