Bibigo Targets US Market Expansion with Frozen Gimbap Campaign

As the global Hallyu phenomenon reshapes American dining habits, bibigo is leveraging a new nationwide campaign to cement its frozen gimbap as a primary convenience snack. The push follows a 59 percent surge in dollar sales, signaling a shift in how domestic consumers view traditional Korean rice rolls.

The brand is betting on the portability and nutritional profile of its microwaveable rolls, which pack 12 grams of vegetable protein per serving. To drive awareness, the company launched the 'OG Recognizes OG' challenge on TikTok, tapping into the influence of creators like Danny Kim. Recent activations in Los Angeles, including events on Melrose Street and at Echo Park, featured local figures such as rapper Dumbfounded and the UCLA dance team Koreos to ground the product in authentic K-culture.

Retail data reflects this growing appetite, with store distribution increasing 146 percent year-to-date. Federico Arreola, president of the Asian Cuisine division at CJ Schwan's, noted that the company is aiming to bridge the gap between traditional Korean meal preparation and the fast-paced American lifestyle. The product is currently rolling out across major chains including Kroger, Albertsons, and Food Lion, moving the dish from niche specialty stores into the mainstream freezer aisle.
