The proof-of-concept, showcased on the new Jolla Phone, shifts the mobile call from a purely auditory experience to a secure, interactive media channel. By leveraging the 3GPP-standardized IMS Data Channel and Nokia’s Network as Code platform, the service provides verified caller context directly on the screen. Users are presented with simple, actionable prompts—such as scheduling appointments—that trigger self-service workflows before, during, or after a call.
Security remains the primary architecture focus. The data interactions operate within an isolated environment inside the native calling application, ensuring the phone’s local data remains inaccessible. With content verified through digital fingerprints, the system aims to eliminate the friction of traditional voice calls in sectors like healthcare, banking, and public safety. Marko Rapeli, CEO of Scailarc, noted that the technology transforms the phone call into a trusted service interface, while Laura Pitkänen of Elisa emphasized its potential to streamline daily digital interactions.
