Nicklaus Children's Hospital Breaks Ground on New Cancer Institute

The new Helen & Jacob Shaham Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute will occupy two floors of the renovated Medical Arts Building, with an expected completion date in 2028. The 17,500-square-foot first floor focuses on infusion therapy, featuring 20 bays arranged in neighborhood-style clusters to balance clinical efficiency with a more personal, family-centered atmosphere. The second floor adds an 8,000-square-foot suite dedicated to Inflammatory Bowel Disease, alongside shared office spaces for physicians and researchers to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Matthew A. Love, President and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System, described the project as a commitment to keeping comprehensive, high-level care within Florida. For patients like Tristan, who underwent treatment for Osteosarcoma at the hospital, the expansion addresses the specific environmental needs of children undergoing long-term care. Ranked as the #1 pediatric cancer program in South Florida by U.S. News & World Report, the institute aims to merge state-of-the-art medical technology with the comfort required for long-term recovery.
