Gates Foundation Joins AAIF to Shape Global Standards for Agentic AI

Matt Vasey, senior advisor of AI strategy and ecosystems at the Gates Foundation, will take a seat on the AAIF board to ensure technical standards account for socioeconomic realities in low-income countries. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between high-level engineering in technology hubs and the practical requirements of sectors such as health, agriculture, and education in developing nations.

This collaboration kicks off with the Gates Foundation serving as a Diamond Sponsor for the upcoming MCP Dev Summit in Nairobi. By funding attendance for innovators across the continent, the foundation intends to foster direct participation from developers who have historically remained on the periphery of major tech ecosystems. Mazin Gilbert, executive director of the AAIF, emphasized that the move is intended to widen the circle of influence in shaping the foundational layers of AI, preventing a scenario where the communities that stand to benefit most are excluded from the design process.
