SiriusXM’s recent overhaul, which officially took effect September 1, represents the most significant contraction in the program's history. The network cut 56 employees, leaving a skeletal crew of just nine staffers to produce the show. While the archival-heavy Howard 101 channel has been replaced by Radio Andy, Stern remains tethered to Howard 100 for his new, condensed Monday morning schedule.

Despite the friction, Stern is pivoting toward a new partnership with HBO Max. He views the deal—which brings video versions of his weekly broadcasts to the platform—as a career milestone and a rebuttal to critics suggesting his relevance is fading. His wife, Beth Stern, has publicly defended the transition, describing the move to a one-day work week as a personal win that allows for more time at home while keeping the host professionally engaged.
