Dr. Klibanski’s total compensation reached $9,180,758 for the 2025 fiscal year, an $800,000 increase from the previous year. This figure, derived from IRS filings, positions her as the highest-paid hospital executive in Massachusetts. Union representatives argue the salary hike undermines the institution's claims of financial constraints during ongoing negotiations with the Massachusetts Nurses Association (MNA).
The friction follows the largest coordinated healthcare strike in state history, which began July 8 and involved both Brigham and Women’s Hospital nurses and MGB Home Care clinicians. Since the walkouts, MGB management has declared a "practical impasse" in talks, presenting staff with options that include freezing cost-of-living adjustments. Kelly Morgan, chair of the Brigham MNA Bargaining Committee, stated that the executive pay package makes it impossible for the system to argue that it cannot afford fair contracts. MGB officials have largely declined to move on key demands, including caseload limits and wage improvements, while clinicians continue to press for terms that ensure patient safety and staff retention.
