The newly patented technology, U.S. Patent No. 12,661,103, offers a solution to the mechanical hurdles inherent in basal joint reconstruction. Traditional surgical techniques often necessitate harvesting tendons from secondary sites and drilling bone tunnels, which complicates the procedure and increases recovery time. Simparo’s approach utilizes a one-way, suture-locking mechanism that allows surgeons to achieve precise, incremental tensioning during the operation.

CEO Chris Harber emphasized that the achievement reflects the broader growth of Alabama’s innovation ecosystem. By developing, protecting, and manufacturing its orthopedic portfolio within the state, the company aims to build a direct pipeline to local hand surgeons. With four patents now in its arsenal, Simparo is looking to scale its suture tensioning system into a wider family of orthopedic applications intended to simplify procedures while maintaining structural stability for patients.
