Anixter Center Reaches Settlement in 2023 Data Breach Class Action

Individuals impacted by a July 2023 cyberattack on the Lester and Rosalie Anixter Center are now eligible to claim compensation following a proposed class action settlement. The agreement, filed in the case of Cardenas v. Anixter, aims to resolve allegations that unauthorized parties accessed sensitive personal files stored on the organization's systems.

While the Anixter Center denies any wrongdoing or liability, the proposed settlement offers various forms of restitution to those who received notice of the breach. Eligible class members may claim one year of credit monitoring and identity theft protection, or opt for financial compensation. This includes reimbursement for documented, unreimbursed losses up to $5,000, or payment for time spent addressing incident-related issues at a rate of $17.50 per hour, capped at three hours. Alternatively, claimants may choose a one-time $50 cash payment.

To participate, claims must be submitted online or postmarked by October 19, 2026. Those who prefer to pursue independent litigation must file a request for exclusion by September 18, 2026. A final approval hearing is scheduled for November 23, 2026, where the court will also review requests for $185,000 in legal fees and a $2,000 service award for the named plaintiff. These costs are to be covered separately by Anixter and will not diminish the individual payouts allocated to class members.
