Proteotype Launches €3 Million European Study for Multi-Cancer Screening

With a €3.023 million investment, Proteotype Diagnostics is launching the INNOVATOR clinical study to validate its Enlighten® cancer detection test. The project aims to expand screening capabilities across 12 cancer types while testing the feasibility of home-based capillary blood collection across Portugal, Spain, and Germany.

The study, supported by €2.116 million in EU and Portuguese funding, will recruit 2,000 participants. It builds upon the existing UK-based MODERNISED study, bringing the total research cohort to approximately 3,350 individuals. By collecting paired venous and capillary samples via Tasso® devices, researchers intend to determine if home-collected blood can provide the same diagnostic accuracy as traditional clinical draws.

"Scientific progress only changes lives when people can access it," said Wesley Sukdao, CEO and co-founder of Proteotype. The company aims to make advanced diagnostics more practical for patients regardless of their location. The trial is scheduled to begin on October 1, 2026, with a target completion date by the end of 2028. Beyond the clinical data, the project will drive expansion at the company’s Torres Vedras headquarters, with active recruitment for roles in trial management, regulatory affairs, and systems engineering.
