Bladex Posts Record Second Quarter Profits Amid Regional Expansion

Panama-based multinational bank Bladex reported a record net profit of $66.5 million for the second quarter of 2026, marking a 4% year-over-year increase. The results, fueled by robust fee generation and growth in commercial lending, highlight the bank’s resilience despite intensified competition across Latin America and the Caribbean.

The bank’s financial performance reached new milestones as net interest income climbed to $73.3 million, an 8% rise compared to the same period last year. This growth was underpinned by a record-setting credit portfolio that reached $14.47 billion, driven by a 20% surge in commercial balances. While the institution faced margin pressures from high market liquidity and aggressive competition for assets, it maintained a disciplined efficiency ratio of 24.1%.

Investor confidence remains high, bolstered by recent credit rating actions. In June, S&P Global Ratings upgraded the bank’s global long-term issuer credit rating to BBB+, citing superior asset quality and a well-diversified portfolio across economic sectors. Meanwhile, Moody’s and Fitch affirmed their existing ratings, maintaining a stable outlook for the institution. As the bank continues to optimize its funding and expand its transactional activities, it has signaled further commitment to shareholders by approving a quarterly dividend of $0.6875 per share, payable in late August.
