The Next Frontier in Food Allergy Treatment

Valued at USD 2.7 billion in 2025, the global food allergy market is bracing for a decade of rapid expansion. Driven by a 9.4% projected CAGR through 2036, the sector is shifting from simple allergen avoidance toward a sophisticated pipeline of immunotherapies designed to modify the underlying disease response.

The current standard of care—strict avoidance coupled with adrenaline auto-injectors—is being challenged by a wave of innovation. While epinephrine remains the primary defense against anaphylaxis, the industry is moving toward needle-free alternatives and targeted immune-system retraining. Analysts point to a robust clinical pipeline, including DBV Technologies’ Viaskin patch and Aquestive Therapeutics’ sublingual film, as evidence of a maturing therapeutic landscape.

Five key assets are currently positioned to redefine patient care. DBV Technologies is advancing its epicutaneous immunotherapy, Viaskin, which uses a wearable patch to desensitize patients to peanut and milk proteins. Meanwhile, Aquestive Therapeutics is awaiting regulatory signals for ANAPHYLM, a polymer-based sublingual film designed to replace bulky injectors. Novartis is also making strides with remibrutinib, a BTK inhibitor that targets mast cell activation, while Aravax is testing PVX108, a peptide-based approach that avoids the risks of using actual food proteins. Finally, GSK has entered the fray with ozureprubart, a monoclonal antibody designed to selectively neutralize IgE, the primary mediator of allergic inflammation.

Commercial momentum is accelerating as firms seek to capture a market increasingly supported by improved diagnostics and rising disease awareness. As these therapies progress through clinical trials, the focus remains on long-term safety and the ability to expand beyond peanut-specific treatments into broader food allergy management.
