The expansion marks a significant shift for the company, as it relocates its primary research operations from IBM’s Almaden Research Centre in San Jose, California. This team is responsible for refining Volcat, a catalytic chemical recycling method that breaks polyester down into reusable raw materials. By moving to the East Coast, Reju intends to accelerate the development of circular chemistry pathways, including solutions for mixed-fabric recycling.
Gregory Breyta, Director of Research & Development at Reju, noted that the facility will handle the full development spectrum, ranging from early-stage testing to kilo-scale production. The lab serves as a testing ground for technologies destined for the company's global network of Regeneration Hubs. These sites, including locations in Frankfurt, Sittard, Lacq, and an upcoming facility in Rochester, New York, are designed to create a closed-loop ecosystem capable of transforming textile waste into high-quality feedstock for new products.
