Netflix Moves to Dismiss Tyra Banks’ Defamation Lawsuit

The streaming giant filed its motion on August 14, defending directors Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy against allegations that they edited Banks’ three-hour interview into a misleading 16-minute segment. A Netflix spokesperson maintained that the filmmakers provided the model an opportunity to speak openly, asserting that her perspective was presented fairly alongside other participants.

Banks, who initiated the legal action in June, contends she participated in the project to offer a candid account of the series' legacy, including its shortcomings. Legal experts suggest the case faces a high threshold; under the First Amendment, documentary producers generally hold broad creative agency to edit footage unless the final product creates objectively false facts. Despite the ongoing litigation, Banks has moved forward in her career, recently joining the judging panel for the 22nd season of Project Runway, an experience she credited with providing personal stability amid the public fallout.
