Lidl GB Targets Long-Term Unemployment with New Hiring Initiative

Lidl GB is reserving 10% of its interview slots for individuals who have been unemployed for at least six months, aiming to bridge the gap between welfare and the retail sector. The initiative covers entry-level positions at new store openings and across the company's 13 regional warehouses over the next year.

The retailer has partnered with the Department for Work and Pensions and the RESTART scheme to identify candidates, providing them with interview coaching and professional guidance. Stephanie Rogers, Chief People Officer at Lidl GB, noted that the program is designed to lower barriers for those struggling to re-enter the workforce by offering competitive pay and structured training. Employment Minister Dame Diana Johnson welcomed the move, highlighting its role in the government's broader effort to transition people from welfare into sustainable careers.

In addition to the recruitment drive, Lidl GB is committing £50,000 to the charity Standing Tall. This funding expands a previous pilot program in Runcorn, with the goal of helping homeless individuals secure stable employment within the company's stores over the coming 12 months.
