The DRL framework operates through a three-gate architecture designed to filter out inaccurate metrics that often compromise corporate climate strategies. The process begins with evidence verification to ensure data traceability, followed by a rigor check to confirm alignment with GHG protocol standards. Finally, a plausibility assessment compares reported figures against sector-specific benchmarks drawn from the EcoVadis Carbon Data Network, which includes approximately 60,000 reporting organizations. This sequence assigns data into one of four reliability tiers, ranging from low-confidence figures to those deemed compliance-ready.
Dexter Galvin, SVP of Climate at EcoVadis, noted that current climate strategies are frequently built on weak foundations due to the inherent difficulty in verifying Scope 3 emissions. By treating data reliability as a primary requirement rather than an optional feature, the framework provides the necessary evidence chains for sustainability assurance engagements, including those mandated by ISSA 5000. This methodology is positioned as an open-source reference point for auditors and accounting platforms, allowing a single supplier rating to be recognized across the entire supply chain ecosystem.
