Madonna, currently preparing for the July 3 release of her 15th studio album, Confession II, opened up to Interview Magazine about the project’s demise. She explained that she pushed for a significant budget to reflect the scale of her life, a demand that led to a standoff with the studio. In a bid to save the film, she proposed moving production to Serbia to cut costs, a suggestion she claims was met with skepticism from executives who doubted her commitment to filming in the region.
Following the collapse of the Universal deal, the singer encountered further obstacles when attempting to pivot to a potential Netflix series. She alleged that the studio demanded an exorbitant price to release the rights to the script she had written herself. Despite the setback, the project remains a point of interest for fans, and actress Julia Garner, who was cast in 2022, suggested as recently as 2025 that the film might still have a future. For now, however, the music legend is shifting her focus back to her recording career, following her 2025 signing with Warner Records.
