The program, launched by the China International Communications Group and Tencent, provided participants a firsthand look at the intersection of tradition and rapid innovation. At BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen, engineers observed highly automated production lines, while others explored Chengdu’s Renmin Park, where they interacted with robotics developed by Unitree Robotics. For many, the visit highlighted the speed of China’s experimental tech culture.
Beyond industrial applications, the group explored social-tech integration, including Tencent’s AI-powered minor protection systems. Participants like John Paul Uminga noted the value of such multi-sector ecosystems in addressing modern digital challenges. The visit concluded with cultural immersion, ranging from Sichuan Opera to giant panda conservation, as delegates sought to build lasting professional ties and academic partnerships between their home regions and China’s evolving innovation hub.
