The installation features LFC biodigesters and WEP effluent pumps strategically placed throughout the ship’s galleys and waste management zones. These units utilize aerobic digestion to break down organic waste, bypassing traditional disposal methods. By commissioning the equipment before the ship's maiden voyage, Princess Cruises ensured that the waste management infrastructure was fully functional for the vessel's initial itineraries across the Caribbean and Alaska.
Power Knot President Iain Milnes noted that the project demonstrates how high-end hospitality can align with rigorous waste reduction standards. The LFC technology is designed for scalability, with units capable of handling daily food waste loads ranging from 10 kg to 6,000 kg. This setup allows the cruise line to maintain compliance with international maritime regulations while optimizing operational efficiency. The integration serves as a template for future fleet-wide sustainability efforts, focusing on reducing the environmental footprint of large-scale passenger transport.
