MDA Space to Acquire Blue Canyon Technologies for $620 Million

Toronto-based MDA Space has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Blue Canyon Technologies from Raytheon for US$620 million in an all-cash deal. The acquisition secures a specialized manufacturing footprint in Denver, positioning the Canadian firm to aggressively expand its footprint within the United States defense and satellite markets.

The transaction, which values Blue Canyon Technologies at approximately C$874 million, brings a profitable, cash-generating business into the MDA Space portfolio. Founded in 2008, the Colorado-based firm has successfully launched over 85 spacecraft and maintains a library of more than 3,500 orbital products. By integrating this flight heritage, MDA Space expects to add US$3.5 billion to its existing opportunity pipeline.

Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA Space, described the acquisition as a strategic move to bolster local manufacturing capabilities and gain access to a highly skilled talent pool. The integration of Blue Canyon’s 400-person workforce and its Denver-area facilities is expected to be accretive to the company's adjusted EBITDA and earnings per share by 2027. The deal is fully financed through senior secured debt and is slated to close by the end of 2026, pending standard regulatory approvals.
