Genesys Works Launches Nashville Internship Program with Four Founding Partners

Four Nashville firms are betting on high school talent to solve local workforce gaps. AllianceBernstein, Barge Design Solutions, Gresham Smith, and Smith Seckman Reid have signed on as the inaugural partners for Genesys Works, a national nonprofit placing local students into yearlong, paid corporate internships starting this August.

The partnership targets sectors currently facing significant talent shortages, specifically financial services and the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries. By providing students with 160 hours of technical and professional training before their placement, the organization aims to move beyond traditional summer internships, offering companies reliable, year-round support. Interns will work 20 hours per week during their senior year, with the nonprofit acting as the employer of record to manage payroll, training, and ongoing coaching.

Dr. Darren Kennedy, Executive Director of Genesys Works Nashville, is now actively recruiting additional employers to reach a goal of 25 student placements for the 2026–2027 school year. Participating firms can assign interns to roles in IT, operations, HR, marketing, or finance. For executives like Barge Design Solutions CEO Carrie Stokes and Gresham Smith CEO Rodney Chester, the program serves as a critical pipeline to demystify complex career paths and introduce students to the industry before they graduate high school. Since its founding in 2002, Genesys Works has expanded to nine regions, supporting over 14,000 young professionals in their transition from underserved communities into long-term career tracks.
