The 2026 SAFe & AI Day Government, hosted by Scaled Agile, Inc. in National Harbor, Maryland, focused on moving beyond initial AI testing toward measurable outcomes. The event provided federal officials with the playbooks necessary to align rapid technological deployment with the governance and security requirements of the public sector. Speakers included Timothy M. Argabrite of the FBI and April Davis from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, who emphasized the importance of building AI fluency within complex organizational structures.
Andrew Sales, chief methodologist at Scaled Agile, noted that the primary challenge for government entities is not starting AI projects, but scaling them to achieve a tangible return on investment. Through programs like the AI-Native Foundations course, participants explored how to balance the need for speed with the mandate for responsible, mission-critical application. By applying SAFe, an operating model already utilized by major defense organizations, agencies aim to coordinate large-scale digital transformation across their fragmented operations.
