enCore Energy Cleared to Begin Construction at Dewey Burdock

The Bureau of Land Management has issued a final decision authorizing enCore Energy Corp. to begin infrastructure construction at its Dewey Burdock Uranium Project in South Dakota. The approval marks a major step forward for the site, which aims to utilize in-situ recovery technology to boost domestic uranium production.

The federal authorization allows Powertech Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of enCore, to break ground on essential infrastructure across 240 acres of public land. Planned work includes the construction of access roads, groundwater monitoring wells, and overhead power lines. This development is part of a broader 10,580-acre project that has been streamlined under the federal Fast-41 permitting program.

William M. Sheriff, executive chair of enCore, noted that the approval validates the company's coordination with federal agencies. The decision followed an extensive independent analysis, including a 30-day public comment period where the Bureau of Land Management addressed concerns regarding cultural resources, tribal impacts, and groundwater safety. The project, which uses an oxygen and water-based solution to extract minerals, is considered a key component in the push to strengthen U.S. nuclear fuel independence.
