The capital injection arrives at a critical juncture for the clinical-stage medical device company. Sonire intends to deploy these funds to scale manufacturing, navigate regulatory pathways in Japan, and bolster ongoing clinical development efforts in the United States. The company’s technology utilizes real-time ultrasound guidance for precise tumor ablation, a method designed to be performed in outpatient settings without the requirement for general anesthesia.
This award marks the final stage of the NEDO program, known as the DMP phase, which focuses on manufacturing readiness and market entry. The decision follows a period of rapid development for the firm, including the recent launch of the SUNRISE-II clinical trial in the U.S. and the completion of patient enrollment for the SUNRISE-I trial in Japan. With five-year survival rates for pancreatic cancer hovering near 13 percent, Tohru Satoh, President and CEO of Sonire Therapeutics, stated that the funding provides the necessary momentum to bring these minimally-invasive treatment options to patients globally.
