The complaint, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, details a February 24, 2026, incident where staff reported that a teacher had grabbed their son by the hair and thrown him onto a cot. According to the legal filing, daycare leadership reviewed all classroom footage at the time, confirming they possessed video of the teacher simultaneously pulling the boy’s twin sister’s hair, striking her, and throwing a shoe at her head. Despite these records, administrators allegedly failed to report the second victim to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, violating state mandatory reporting laws.
Steven Vanderporten, a partner at Gould Grieco & Hensley, stated that the daycare sent a vague notice to parents mentioning concerns about a teacher's interaction with "a child," while deliberately omitting the existence of the second victim. The lawsuit asserts that the facility’s executive leadership kept the family in the dark until Glenview Police independently contacted the parents nearly two months later with the additional footage. The litigation seeks damages for negligence, negligent hiring, and fraudulent concealment, raising broader questions about safety oversight at KinderCare Learning Companies, which currently operates over 1,600 centers nationwide.
