Lumeris Adds AI Symptom-Checking to Tom Platform for High-Risk Patients

Patients with complex chronic conditions often face a dangerous gap in care between scheduled doctor visits. Cambridge-based Lumeris is addressing this uncertainty with a new symptom-checking feature for its Tom platform, using Google’s Gemini AI to bridge the divide between home-based concerns and clinical intervention.

The new capability, integrated into the company’s Primary Care as a Service platform, allows patients and caregivers to report health concerns through natural, conversational interactions. Rather than leaving patients to navigate symptoms alone, the tool generates structured summaries and prioritization guidance for care teams. This process helps providers identify emerging health issues before they escalate into high-acuity events requiring emergency treatment.

Dr. David Carmouche, chief medical and commercial officer at Lumeris, stated that the tool acts as an active member of the care team, ensuring patients receive support exactly when needed. The technology is currently being utilized by a major Medicare Advantage plan to monitor high-risk members. By feeding AI-generated insights directly into existing clinical workflows, the system aims to extend the reach of primary care providers without replacing their oversight. This release follows other recent platform additions, such as voice-enabled interactions and conversational analytics, as the company prepares for broader availability later this year.
