Mackenzie Shirilla, now 21, remains at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. According to her mother, she maintains contact through daily messages on a prison-issued tablet and works in the facility’s food service department. While Natalie acknowledges that her daughter faces significant mental challenges, she insists that Mackenzie is physically healthier than when she first arrived. When questioned about reports of 36 misconduct violations—including those involving sexually explicit video calls—Natalie characterized many as minor misunderstandings of complex prison rules and denied that her daughter possesses a violent or aggressive nature.
The 2022 incident remains a point of intense scrutiny. Prosecutors successfully argued that Shirilla intentionally accelerated her Toyota Camry to nearly 100 mph, deliberately crashing into a building to kill her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and friend, Davion Flanagan. Judge Nancy Margaret Russo sentenced Shirilla in 2023, labeling her actions a "mission of death." Reflecting on the aftermath, Natalie Shirilla expressed the difficulty of the situation for all families involved, describing the experience as feeling trapped in "quicksand" while navigating the consequences of the trial and the ongoing life sentence.
