While the White House maintains that increased credit card activity reflects consumer optimism, critics argue families are being forced into debt to cover basic necessities. Senator Elizabeth Warren and her colleagues have challenged official Pentagon estimates, which placed the war's cost at $29 billion. They point to independent projections suggesting the true financial burden on the public is closer to $50 billion, demanding greater transparency regarding the long-term economic fallout of the intervention.
