The second season of the anthology series features Isaac as Josh, a struggling country club manager, and Mulligan as Lindsey, an interior designer facing a midlife crisis. Their characters’ failing marriage serves as the central friction of the season. According to the actors, filming these explosive moments required a level of vulnerability that felt like a high-wire act, particularly during a sequence involving a wine glass throw.
Mulligan noted that the scene required careful calibration to remain authentic, arguing that a woman’s instinct during a display of male aggression is often to withdraw, rather than escalate. By choosing to have Lindsey initiate the physical outburst, the actors found a more complex dynamic. Isaac characterized the process as freeing, noting that the absence of judgment between him and Mulligan allowed them to embrace the cringe and volatility of their characters’ breakdown.
To prepare for these performances, Isaac engaged in extensive, therapy-like sessions with series creator Lee Sung Jin. These deep dives into the character’s psyche went beyond the script, functioning more as an investigation into human behavior. Isaac, a fan of the show’s first season, specifically cited the emotional range of Steven Yeun’s performance as the catalyst for his decision to join the project. He praised Lee for maintaining a razor-thin balance between dark humor and genuine compassion.
