The custom "Stars and Stripes" paint scheme, applied in Amarillo, Texas, adorns a Boeing 787-10 and a 737-800. The design incorporates 50 stars and diagonal stripes intended to signify national momentum. Each aircraft carries a plaque honoring active-duty service members and veterans, a gesture underscored by the presence of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and CEO Scott Kirby at the unveiling event.
Beyond the aesthetics, the airline reported significant progress in its United Military Pilot Program. Since 2024, the initiative has transitioned nearly 600 military pilots into the cockpit, with an additional 500 projected to join by the end of 2027. The program allows active-duty pilots to secure conditional job offers well before their separation dates, bypassing the immediate need for an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate at the time of application. Currently, United employs over 8,300 veterans, including 18,000 total pilots, of which more than 4,500 served in the armed forces.
