The initiative represents a strategic shift toward digital infrastructure, moving away from traditional paper labels that have long dominated the grocery aisle. Kevin Tindall, Managing Director of Tesco UK Operations, noted that the transition serves both staff and customers by streamlining store updates. The company selected Hanshow following a proof-of-concept phase that also included VusionGroup, aiming to solve persistent issues with pricing consistency.
Beyond simple price tagging, the underlying technology ecosystem is expanding. Hanshow recently unveiled xPilot, an AI-driven assistant built on Microsoft Azure. By utilizing digital twin technology, the system integrates data from smart shelves, robotics, and IoT sensors to provide store managers with real-time visibility into inventory and planogram compliance. While Tesco focuses on the immediate rollout of shelf labels, the broader industry adoption of such systems signals a move toward automated, intelligence-led store management.
