Three infants in California, Pennsylvania, and Washington have been hospitalized with botulism, prompting a nationwide recall of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula. Health officials identified the product, sold through Target and online, as the source of type A botulinum toxin infections occurring between April and May.

The FDA, alongside the CDC and state health departments, confirmed the link between the powdered formula and the illnesses. Nara Organics initiated the recall on June 13, 2026, covering units distributed between July 2025 and June 2026. This incident marks the second formula-linked botulism outbreak in seven months, following a significant event involving ByHeart products in late 2025. Food safety attorney Bill Marler, whose firm represents victims of the previous outbreak, criticized current industry oversight, noting that powdered formulas containing whole milk powder present recurring, preventable risks.

Parents are urged to stop using the product immediately. Caregivers should label containers as "DO NOT USE" and store them securely, as state health departments may require the physical evidence for testing. Medical professionals are advised to monitor infants for symptoms such as constipation, weak crying, loss of head control, and difficulty swallowing. Physicians suspecting botulism should contact the Infant Botulism Treatment and Prevention Program for immediate consultation, as early administration of antitoxins is critical for recovery.
