Standing before a crowd of parents and educators outside the San Diego campus on June 12, Margaretta Boutserse launched a wrongful termination suit against Albert Einstein Academies. The veteran principal alleges she was fired after refusing to undermine teacher unionization efforts, a demand she claims violated California law.
Boutserse spent over two decades at the institution, including 12 years as principal, consistently earning positive evaluations before her sudden departure. According to the complaint filed by Gomez Trial Attorneys, the conflict began when school leadership pressured her to monitor and influence staff members attempting to organize. Her refusal to participate in these activities allegedly triggered a retaliatory campaign that ended her career.Attorney John Gomez and co-counsel Taleah Phillips argue the case serves as a critical test for whistleblower protections within California’s educational sector. During the press conference, the legal team emphasized that employees must be shielded from professional retribution when they resist unlawful workplace demands. As the case moves to the San Diego County Superior Court, it has drawn significant attention from labor advocates and community members concerned with transparency and accountability in local schools.
