A tornado struck the Streator, Illinois region on June 11, leaving Federal Signal’s local manufacturing facility unscathed and its workforce safe. Hours after confirming the plant avoided structural damage, the Downers Grove-based corporation announced its acquisition of Bremerton-based Western Technology to bolster its hazardous environment lighting portfolio.

Federal Signal CEO Jennifer L. Sherman confirmed that the company is currently coordinating with local leadership to assist in the broader Streator recovery efforts. While the company continues to monitor the local situation, manufacturing operations at the site remain active with no material disruptions reported.

Simultaneously, the firm is pivoting toward expansion with the acquisition of Western Technology, a specialist in portable, explosion-protected lighting for the defense, aerospace, and petrochemical sectors. Western Technology, which recorded approximately $6 million in revenue over the last year, provides a strategic entry point for Federal Signal into specialized hazardous-environment equipment. The transaction is slated to close within the next 90 days, pending standard regulatory conditions. Federal Signal intends to integrate the new asset into its Safety and Security Systems Group, aiming to leverage existing U.S. manufacturing infrastructure to scale production and expand sales channels.
