At the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, EVA Air President Clay Sun became the first Taiwanese representative elected to the association’s Board of Directors. This appointment marks the inaugural participation of a Taiwan-based carrier in the highest governing body of the global aviation organization.
The IATA Board of Directors oversees strategic leadership and governance for an organization representing over 360 airlines, which collectively manage more than 80 percent of global air traffic. Sun’s election signals an expansion of the board's geographical scope and brings his extensive experience in both passenger and cargo operations to the association’s decision-making process.IATA Director General Willie Walsh stated that Sun’s inclusion will help shape the industry’s strategic priorities and oversight functions. For his part, Sun described the appointment as a milestone for both his airline and the broader Taiwanese civil aviation sector, emphasizing a commitment to contributing toward global sustainable development initiatives. Founded in 1989, EVA Air currently operates a fleet of over 80 aircraft serving 60 international destinations, with plans to expand its network to Washington, D.C. later this month.
