Medtronic has finalized its $550 million acquisition of Salt Lake City-based Scientia Vascular, integrating a specialized portfolio of guidewires and catheters into its global neurovascular business. The deal aims to accelerate stroke treatment by simplifying the navigation of complex cerebral anatomy, where every second of blood flow restoration is critical.

The addition of Scientia’s technology provides Medtronic with advanced access tools designed to bypass the highly tortuous vessels that often complicate neurovascular procedures. By streamlining these interventions, the company expects to reduce the time required for surgeons to reach occlusions or aneurysms, directly addressing the procedural bottlenecks that currently hinder stroke care.

Linnea Burman, senior vice president of Medtronic’s Neurovascular business, stated that the integration of these complementary technologies will enhance physician confidence and efficiency. Scientia, which employs approximately 310 people, will fold its product suite into Medtronic’s broader Neuroscience Portfolio. While the acquisition is projected to be minimally dilutive to Medtronic’s adjusted earnings per share in fiscal year 2027, the company anticipates the move will become accretive in subsequent periods as the technology scales globally.
