Two independent music powerhouses, Street Flavor Records and SPNDAT Entertainment, have narrowed their search for America’s next creative capital to Lewisburg, West Virginia, and Venice, Florida. The firms aim to establish an affordable, sustainable alternative to high-cost hubs like Nashville, Austin, and Atlanta by the end of the year.
The search, which began with a five-city shortlist that included Asheville and Athens, hinges on finding a location with existing infrastructure and cultural depth. Veteran producer Sonny Paradise, who is leading the initiative, noted that the decision-making process was influenced by the readiness of local leadership to move beyond traditional industry models. He described the Appalachian town of Lewisburg as having a raw, authentic soul, while Venice offers a coastal environment and an established arts community.Behind this move is a consortium of industry insiders intent on creating a sanctuary for artists struggling with the ballooning costs of living in major metropolitan areas. The winning city will host a development project featuring a high-end recording complex, an artist retreat, and a multi-tiered festival strategy. The joint venture expects to finalize its selection within the coming weeks, moving the project from a strategic concept to a concrete development roadmap.
