A 150 MW / 600 MWh battery storage facility has officially commenced operations in Nova Zagora, marking a significant step in Bulgaria’s efforts to stabilize its power grid. Developed by Enery and built by Sungrow and Sunotec, the site represents one of the largest utility-scale energy storage projects in Southeast Europe.

The installation utilizes Sungrow’s liquid-cooled PowerTitan 2.0 technology, designed to enhance grid flexibility and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources. Financed through the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy’s national RESTORE program, the project serves as a key pillar for regional energy resilience. It is the first major milestone of a collaboration established at Intersolar 2025, which aims to deploy up to 800 MWh of capacity in the region, with potential expansions reaching 1 GWh.

Enery, the project owner, intends to leverage the asset by participating in power and balancing markets, providing the necessary flexibility to manage fluctuating renewable supply. This site is part of a larger, aggressive deployment schedule for Bulgaria. Sungrow and Sunotec plan to bring a total of 2.2 GWh of battery capacity online within the next two months, with the national total expected to hit 3 GWh by the end of 2026. The pipeline includes the Knizhnovik Phase 1 project, a 100 MW / 200 MWh hybrid installation that integrates both battery storage and photovoltaic generation.
