Todd Chrisley Battles to Shield Son’s Medical Records in Crash Lawsuit

A 2022 Tennessee highway collision involving Grayson Chrisley has spiraled into a contentious legal discovery battle, as the family fights to block the opposing party from accessing the teenager's post-accident drug and alcohol screening records, claiming the private medical files bear no relevance to the ongoing damages dispute.

Patrick Rykwalder, who initiated the lawsuit after his vehicle was struck by Grayson Chrisley’s Ford F-150 on Interstate 65, argues that the records are essential to evaluating the crash circumstances and the validity of reported injuries, including a concussion. Rykwalder’s legal team points to statements made by Todd Chrisley on his podcast in November 2022, where he claimed to have personally arranged for his son’s toxicology screening at the hospital. While the Chrisleys maintain that Grayson has already admitted liability for the accident, rendering the medical data unnecessary for determining damages, the dispute highlights a broader friction over the family's privacy.

Beyond medical files, the litigation has expanded into a struggle over private communications. Rykwalder initially subpoenaed phone records from Todd, Julie, and Savannah Chrisley, labeling the data crucial for establishing a timeline of events. The family resisted, characterizing the request as an oppressive attempt at harassment. The parties ultimately reached a compromise: Grayson’s phone records will be produced, while the records of Todd and Julie will undergo an attorney-led review to filter for relevant material. This legal clash follows a history of high-profile litigation for the family, including a previous $1 million settlement with the State of Georgia regarding allegations of misconduct by a tax investigator.
