Matalan hits 1.76 million downloads with first native mobile app

Matalan’s debut native mobile app has secured 1.76 million downloads since its August launch, signaling a significant shift in the retailer’s digital strategy. Developed with Apadmi, the platform is already outperforming expectations, with conversion rates reaching 4.4% and order values tracking 14% higher than those on the company’s website.

The rollout has prompted a surge in engagement, with monthly active users climbing 10% consecutively since the launch. Sales performance has been equally robust, showing a 20% year-on-year increase in August and a 28% jump in September. These figures suggest that the app is successfully bridging the gap between digital and physical shopping environments for the clothing and homewares chain.

Key features include an intelligent search function and a streamlined checkout process integrated with Apple Pay and Google Pay. To unify the omnichannel experience, the app incorporates in-store barcode scanning, allowing customers to pull up product reviews, availability, and detailed specifications while browsing physical aisles. Matalan Me rewards and account management are also centralized within the interface to simplify customer interaction.

Dre Nicolaides, Digital Director at Matalan, noted that the high adoption rate proves customers are actively using the tool for shopping rather than just browsing. Apadmi’s Client Services Director, Keeley Lee, emphasized that the partnership aims to support the retailer’s long-term digital growth ambitions through a more responsive and user-centric platform.
