DC Studios confirmed the arrangement, noting that Soderbergh approached Reeves to offer assistance. While Reeves remains away from the set, the two directors are collaborating closely to ensure the remaining footage aligns with the established vision. Reeves is expected to resume full control of the film during the post-production phase. According to a studio statement, the production has the full support of DC leadership as they work to meet the scheduled February 18, 2028, theatrical release.
Soderbergh, who described the first film as rigorously coherent, emphasized that his goal is to integrate his contributions seamlessly with the existing material. This transition follows the collapse of The Hunt for Ben Solo, a Star Wars project Soderbergh had been developing with actor Adam Driver. Disney executives reportedly rejected the script, questioning the narrative viability of Driver’s character following the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Soderbergh later characterized the cancellation as a source of frustration, citing years of development work that ultimately failed to move past executive review.
