HBO Announces Girls Revival Amid Ongoing Tension With Adam Driver

HBO has greenlit a five-episode revival of its acclaimed series Girls, reuniting Lena Dunham with core cast members Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet, and Andrew Rannells. Notably absent from the announcement is Adam Driver, whose history with Dunham has been complicated by explosive allegations detailed in her 2026 memoir.

Production is slated to begin next year, marking a decade since the original series finale. While Dunham returns as creator and executive producer alongside Judd Apatow, the project moves forward without original co-showrunner Jenni Konner. The revival focuses on the characters reaching their 40s, with Dunham envisioning her character, Hannah, now teaching at Bard.

The exclusion of Driver from the promotional narrative follows serious claims made in Dunham’s book, Famesick. Dunham alleged that Driver exhibited volatile behavior on set, including an incident where he purportedly hurled a chair against a wall during a rehearsal. She further characterized his approach to intimate scenes as overly aggressive. When pressed about these allegations at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, Driver declined to address them directly, stating he was saving his perspective for his own future memoir. While other notable costars have offered support for Driver’s professionalism, his involvement in the new episodes remains officially unconfirmed.
