Developed by Carson City-based Calculated Industries, the tool functions as a virtual assistant for complex site calculations. It processes voice and text prompts regarding rafter pitch, stair geometry, material takeoffs, and roof framing, providing step-by-step guidance to minimize costly arithmetic errors. Judges for the annual competition, which reviewed nearly 400 entries this year, highlighted the software’s ability to merge modern AI convenience with established trade expertise.
Steve Kennedy, President of Calculated Industries, noted that the objective was to implement technology that integrates seamlessly into the existing workflows of trade professionals. Currently available on iOS, the feature is scheduled for an Android release later this year. By focusing on field-oriented problem solving, the application aims to improve both speed and accuracy for users already familiar with the company’s legacy calculation devices.
