The day-long program, titled "1974: The Beginning of a Legacy. 2026: The Power of Scholarship and Ideas," featured six sessions designed to integrate institutional history with current research. President Ingrid N. Thompson-Sellers, Ph.D., and Provost Marshall Thompson, Ph.D., opened the proceedings by framing the college's trajectory through the lens of community growth and student success. Their presentation emphasized the ongoing mission to foster "trailblazing" academic environments within the Atlanta metropolitan region.
Academic discussions ranged from the technical to the historical. Dr. Paul Majett and Dr. Tocarro Combs addressed the integration of artificial intelligence in higher education, while Dr. Sharon R. Duhart presented data on student success outcomes in first-year courses. The afternoon shift moved toward the humanities, with Senior Lecturer Val Parker exploring the connection between music and neural pathways, and Dr. Edward Hightower delivering a historical analysis of Atlanta’s postbellum reconstruction. These contributions underscored the college's commitment to the "In Atlanta, For Atlanta" philosophy, linking the school’s founding legacy to the practical challenges currently shaping higher education.
