The penalty, described by Jose Rojas of the American Federation of Government Employees as one of the most serious available, stems from allegations that Combs maintained access to a contraband cellphone. Prison officials consider such devices a severe security threat, as they allow inmates to bypass communication monitoring and coordinate prohibited activities. Reports suggest the device was used to view social media and explicit images sent by an outside contact.
This disciplinary action follows a September investigation that detailed claims of a VIP lifestyle within the New Jersey facility. Inmates alleged that Combs paid other prisoners to perform personal tasks, including cleaning, laundry, and massages, while also accessing premium liquor. Although a spokesperson for Combs characterized the intense media scrutiny as an exaggeration of mundane prison life, the cumulative effect of these allegations has resulted in multiple stints in solitary confinement and the loss of significant credit toward his 50-month sentence for transportation to engage in prostitution.
