Midmark RTLS Integrates Staff Safety Alerts Into Epic Toolbox

The integration utilizes HL7 FHIR-based APIs to bridge the gap between clinical hardware and security response platforms. When a caregiver activates a badge, the system transmits both the individual's identity and their exact location to Epic. Security teams receive these alerts through the platform's native push notification framework, allowing them to coordinate responses without switching between disparate software systems.

HT Snowday, senior director at Midmark RTLS, noted that effective protection requires technology that delivers critical information to the right personnel at the right time. Unlike standalone panic buttons, this solution eliminates the need for extra hardware by repurposing the RTLS badges already worn by staff for routine workflow automation. The system supports Bluetooth Low Energy, Infrared, and hybrid configurations, allowing hospitals to scale the technology based on existing infrastructure.

This development extends a partnership between the two companies that began in 2012. By consolidating safety alerts within the primary interface used by clinicians, the collaboration aims to reduce response times and minimize the complexity of emergency protocols in high-pressure medical settings.
