LG Innotek Pivots to Semiconductors and Physical AI to Bolster Growth

A sharp rebound in first-half earnings has underscored the success of LG Innotek’s structural overhaul under CEO Moon Hyuksoo. By pivoting toward high-value semiconductor substrates and physical AI applications, the Seoul-based firm is moving beyond its traditional reliance on seasonal mobile hardware to secure long-term profit resilience.

For the first half of 2026, LG Innotek reported revenue of USD 8.22 billion alongside USD 401.96 million in operating profit, marking a 24 percent and 296 percent increase year-over-year. This performance, the strongest off-peak showing since 2022, validates the company’s transition to a high-margin portfolio designed to withstand market volatility. The core of this strategy lies in the company’s substrate division, where it maintains a dominant 80 percent market share in RF-SiP substrates. By scaling its FC-BGA production for PC CPUs and preparing to enter the AI accelerator market, the firm is positioning its package solutions as a primary driver for a targeted USD 743 million operating profit in the sector by 2031.

Beyond chip components, LG Innotek is aggressively targeting the physical AI market, integrating its optical expertise into autonomous driving and robotics. The company has already begun mass-producing camera modules for humanoid robots at its Paju facility. Strategic alliances—including partnerships with Applied Intuition for autonomous driving and TDK for robotic tactile sensing—are designed to solidify its status as a total solution provider. By 2030, the firm expects these emerging sectors to account for 25 percent of its total revenue, aiming for a combined value of USD 5.94 billion in new business streams.
