Qatar and Liberty London Launch Residency to Transform Heritage into Textiles

The residency unfolds through "Discover," "Develop," and "Advance" phases, beginning with an intensive research program focused on Qatar’s architectural history, marine environments, and native flora. Following an initial assessment of the ten participants, five designers will be selected for a mentorship period at Liberty’s studios in London. The initiative culminates in a high-stakes opportunity: two original artworks may be chosen for inclusion in Liberty London’s 2028 Interior Fabric Collection.

This partnership marks the first anniversary of Liberty Home Msheireb, which has served as a cultural bridge since opening in Doha last year. According to Genevieve Bennett, Head of Design for Home & Interiors at Liberty, the project seeks to blend the brand's 150-year archive with the visual language of the Gulf. For Msheireb Properties and the British Council, the project serves as a strategic investment in Qatar’s creative economy, aiming to provide local talent with the international networks and technical expertise required to scale their practice.
