BarrelPick.com Allows Bourbon Fans to Own and Age Their Own Barrels

For most whiskey drinkers, the experience begins once the liquid is already in the bottle. A new platform, BarrelPick.com, is changing that dynamic by allowing individual consumers to purchase, monitor, and customize an entire barrel of bourbon directly from distillers, effectively bypassing traditional retail selection.

Launched at the 2026 Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown, the service aims to turn casual enthusiasts into active participants in the aging process. Rather than buying a finished product, users select from an inventory of over 1,000 barrels sourced from 20 U.S. distilleries. Once purchased, the owner decides whether to keep the whiskey in a Kentucky warehouse for further maturation or begin the bottling process immediately.

Founder Steve Scheidecker notes that the platform provides a level of agency usually reserved for industry insiders. Owners can request samples, dictate the final proof, and even design their own custom labels for a private release. To handle the logistics, BarrelPick.com has partnered with the Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood, which manages the secure storage, bottling, and regulatory compliance required for the whiskey. Whether for personal consumption, corporate gifts, or special milestones, the model allows owners to bottle as little as 48 bottles at a time, leaving the remainder of the barrel to continue aging.
